Exciting season opener!

The first race of the Formula 1 season has been completed and I like what the new rules have done to make racing more exciting.  Jenson Button lead from start to finish to take only his second win in 154 races. Jenson’s team mate Rubens Barrichello was very fortunate to take second spot after bogging down off the line and dropping down the field. The Brazilian made it back upto 5th place when Ferrari’s Felipe Massa retired from the race then a few laps from the end, Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel tangled while fighting for second. Both drivers ended up in the wall after damaging their front wings. Suddenly Barrichello found himself in second behind his team mate following the safety car home. Jarno Trulli was given a 25 second penalty dropping him to 12th after crossing the finishing line in 3rd to allow world champion Lewis Hamilton a surprise podium finish after being promoted from 4th because of Trulli’s misfortune. Ferrari came away from the race with no points as both drivers had premature endings to their race. McLaren’s second driver Heikki Kovalainen didn’t even complete a lap after getting caught up in a first corner incident triggered by Barrichello’s poor start. You can’t help but be amazed by Ross Brawn and the whole Brawn GP team after securing their survival only 3 weeks before the start of the new F1 season. It just goes to show what a technical genius Ross Brawn is when it comes to creating a winning race car after his time with Benetton and later Ferrari.
