The budget for 2009/2010 has been announced and yet again there is no relief for the people of the UK. Income tax for people that are lucky enough to earn £150,000 or more will be penalised by an extra 10% tax on their income. That’s half of people’s salaries, it’s a tax on being successful. I have always said this, why should we get penalised for being successful, there should be a basic rate of tax for everyone except extremely low earners. What have the government done for a slice of your income pie exactly? We already pay council tax for refuse, police and other services, we pay road tax for upkeep of our road system, we pay national insurance for our healthcare system. Seriously what are we being taxed for? I think labour have put the final nail in their electoral coffin with this decision. Fuel tax is up a further 2 pence, cigarettes 7 pence and 1 pence on a pint of beer. Also £15bn in public sector “efficiency savings” – which read between the lines means than thousands of public sector workers will be out of work in the next 12 months!
Liverpool’s 4 – 4 draw with Arsenal last night has all but wiped out any hope of winning the Premiership this season. Manchester United comfortably beat Portsmouth 2 – 0 at Old Trafford this evening to move 3 points clear at the top of the league and still have a game in hand over Liverpool. Of course it’s still possible to mathematically win the league but it’s unlikely with five games remaining in the season and having one less game than their main rivals. Liverpool have no-one to blame but themselves as their defending was shocking on the night and were only rescued by a very potent strike force. It just goes to show what an impact Steven Gerrard has on the team, the dip in form is directly timed with Gerrard’s injury, what does that say to you?
