Hamilton Win Benefits Button, Plymouth Lose, Liverpool Win!

Lewis Hamilton won his second race of the 2009 season in Singapore ahead of Toyota’s Timo Glock and Renault’s Fernando Alonso. Hamilton lead from the start to cross the line just over 11 seconds ahead of the Toyota with Alonso a further four seconds down the road. The race was very processional with most of the overtaking done in the pitlane. distant world championship contender Sebastian Vettel was running in second behind Hamilton after Williams’ Nico Rosberg was given a drive-through penalty for crossing the pit-lane exit line, but the German himself had to suffer a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit-lane to drop back to finish in fourth place. Jenson Button beat his team-mate to the chequered flag by just under two seconds to extend his championship lead by one point over Rubens Barrichello while Vettel reduced his deficit by one point. After Singapore Jenson has a 15 point lead in the championship with just 30 points remaining; it’s Button’s championship to lose. The Briton only needs to claim 15 points to make sure of the championship in three races, three fourth place finishes will see Button across the championship finishing line as he has won more races than anyone else by far this season. Heikki Kovalainen and Robert Kubica round out the points scorers. Unless something amazing happens Brawn will have sown up both championships in their first ever season, which is no mean feat!

Liverpool comfortably beat Hull 6 – 1 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon with Fernando Torres star of the game scoring a hat-trick. It was looking like the Torres show scoring two before half time and one just after half time. Steven Gerrard made it 4 – 1 fourteen minutes later with Ryan Babel scoring two goals in three minutes at the end of the game. Red’s manager Rafael Benitez is understandably happy with six against Hull but at the same time also said that Fernando Torres could do better for his £20m price tag. Torres is arguably the best player in the Liverpool squad right now, I believe that Steven Gerrard is the only player that comes close to Torres’ ability. Liverpool remain in third place in the Premiership as Manchester United go top after Chelsea dropped the ball being beaten 3 – 1 by Wigan at the DW Stadium. The Reds close the gap to three points on both United and Chelsea and have the best goal difference in the league at this time.

Plymouth Argyle lost their seventh consecutive game despite being the home team against Nottingham Forest; a team that weren’t doing too much better than the Pilgrims. Since Ian Holloway left Home Park; Argyle haven’t had a decent striker that can find the back of the net on a regular basis. There are two options; either Sturrock has signed a load of donkey’s or Sturrock himself is to blame because of tactical errors or simply not having the inspirational personality that is required to create a winning team. If Sturrock shows no passion for the team and/or game; how can he expect his side to show passion and win games? In Sturrock’s own words, his XI’s heads went down because they couldn’t get  an early goal despite the scoreline still being 0 – 0; once Forest scored it was all over for the Pilgrims. Holloway’s Argyle would fight to the death even if they were 3 – 0 down, Sturrock’s team don’t seem to have that attitude. It comes back to the question of how long before Sir Roy Gardner fires or moves Luggy upstairs and brings someone else in; frankly a complete rookie manager couldn’t do any worse than Sturrock! Plymouth are obviously still rooted to the bottom of the Championship; the only shining light is that Barnsley and Ipswich were both beaten so Plymouth didn’t fall further adrift but are now 20 points adrift of the league leaders after just nine games. I don’t know the answer; but it’s definitely not Luggy!

My life in Kansas hasn’t been so great, work hasn’t been forthcoming which in itself is frustrating but now we find out that in addition to the company Erin works for not allowing for maternity leave, we now have to pay rent which is $630 for the period of time she’ll have to take off unpaid. Erin will be able to claim 60% of her wage in FMLA (Family & Medical Leave Act) payments but that will be wiped out by paying rent. If I can’t find work soon we’ll be screwed; I am now even contemplating asking my dad to buy me an air ticket back to the UK so I won’t be a financial burden on Erin and [hopefully] will be able to find work easier so I can send money to Erin to help with Conner and the baby until conditions are better and we can be together again.
