Last night I uploaded by resume to Career Builder and today I received a phone call from Oasis Staffing asking me a few initial questions. Later asking me to come in for an interview tomorrow at noon in their Wichita office. Obviously this is great news especially with all the corporate nonsense that is happening concerning Erin’s limitations because of pregnancy. The job itself is a sales/customer service position but it sounds more interesting than the call centre work I have been applying for and failing the assessment as the assessments aren’t how things would happen in a real world situation. I’m not very good at being a ‘sheep’, I need to be able to contribute more than simply following rigid company policy. I believe this position, should I get it, will allow me to be more creative in a friendly structured small team environment as this is a reasonably new start-up. It is a sales employment role but more concentrated on customer support, answering telephone calls, discussing client needs, demonstration of company technologies and selling the best package to the customer. It’s a bit like working in an electronics shop, finding out the requirements of the client and advising them on what would be the best products for them, and hopefully they’ll buy. Thankfully it’s not cold calling, I refuse to work as a cold caller sales rep, I hate it when people call me trying to sell something and I really don’t want to do it to someone else. Normally I get the first job I interview for in the UK, can I have the same effect in the US of A? I like to talk and like to help people (and hopefully make money) so this job could be perfect.
