Yesterday I was informed that I would be unemployed just five hours before the end of my shift. What kind of bullshit is this? I knew the assignment was coming to an end but I resent the fact they elected not to give myself and 20 other seasonal workers a weeks notice, which is simple common courtesy. I can see why they didn’t seeing how some of the seasonals reacted, letting calls roll and generally not being very helpful to customers. But I still find it inexcusable, maybe these seasonals wouldn’t have reacted this way if they were given a weeks notice. I am more annoyed by the bullshit double standards; we as employees are expected to give two weeks notice but we are not afforded the same courtesy. But I do appreciate the employment agency giving me a chance to get a foot in the door in the US job market. So back to the job hunting, I have already applied for a couple of positions although given the recent trend of employers not acknowledging applications I don’t expect to hear anything back. At least we have some savings to get us through the next couple of months; hopefully I can find more work before that time.
I have finally upgraded to Windows 7 and thus far I am very impressed. It seems to be very stable and it looks very polished with some cool new features like being able to compare two files side by side and being able to shake a window to close all others is a neat trick. Also the new taskbar is very cool with it’s preview feature and grouping of windows to be able to see what you have running. It’s just a shame that HP are a bunch of arses and will not release drivers for Windows 7 despite this laptop only being 18 months old. There are a couple of devices that are showing as not installed but everything seems to work just fine so they can’t be very important devices.
Plymouth Argyle’s future as a championship football club is hanging in the balance as the Pilgrims are seven points from safety with three games remaining. Basically Plymouth need to win two games and draw one assuming that Crystal Palace don’t score any points from their last two games. Given that Plymouth host runaway leaders Newcastle United on Monday, Plymouth’s chances are not good but you never know, Plymouth have a habit of pulling off results they really shouldn’t. Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four with only four games remaining is looking unlikely unless the teams around them slip up. Liverpool are six points off Manchester City in fourth. Liverpool should win three of the remaining four games but the crunch match with be against league leaders Chelsea on the 2nd of May. Also Liverpool has just been put up for sale which isn’t good for morale! Couldn’t the sale have waited until the end of the season Mr Hicks & Gillett.
In Formula 1 Sebastian Vettel finally managed to convert his raw pace into a win at Sapang, Malaysia. Vettel jumped team mate and pole sitter Mark Webber at the start and never looked back. Mark Webber brought his Red Bull home in second to give Red Bull their first 1-2 of the year. Brits Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button brought their McLaren’s home in sixth and eighth respectively while Pole Robert Kubica impressed again with another steady drive to fourth in difficult conditions. Nico Rosberg beat seven time world champion Michael Schumacher for the third time this season to claim another podium finish. And Ferrari’s Felipe Massa leads the world championship without winning a single race being Mr. Consistent. Sebastian Vettel starts from pole position for third time this season edging out team mate Webber for tomorrow’s race in China. McLaren are again struggling for pace only qualifying in fifth and sixth with Jenson winning the battle of McLaren. Fernando Alonso will start in third place ahead of Mercedes’ driver Nico Rosberg while team mate Michael Schumacher qualified down in 9th place, should make for an interesting race tomorrow if the weather is going to be unpredictable. Will McLaren be quicker in the race; or will Red Bull scamper off into the distance, Red Bull would have won every race if it wasn’t for their reliability issues. Maybe Fernando Alonso could spring a surprise from third to win? We’ll have to watch and see! I’m hoping McLaren come to the fore for obvious reasons!
