The football season started in earnest this afternoon for Championship, League 1 and League 2 clubs. And Plymouth Argyle got off to a winning start away at St Mary’s beating the home team 0 – 1. Southampton had the majority of the play in the first half but couldn’t make the breakthough with Dean Hammond heading wide twice from David Connolly crosses. Plymouth got their reward at the start of the season half; Luke Summerfield prodding home Rory Fallon’s headed pass. Not exactly the most convincing performance but given the run of form at the end of last season it’s a great start and will give the team great confidence going into the next game. This win puts Plymouth in 10th place in the league; that being said after one game, league positions are meaningless! Of course there is a big grudge match coming up on December 11th when Plymouth host local rivals Exeter City, the last time the two clubs met was in 2002 in the old third division!
