Fantastic batting from the England top order!

As the first Ashes test heads towards an inevitable draw, the English fans have Andrew Strauss, Allistair Cook and Jonathan Trott to thank for rescuing the game for England. Strauss came out and hit 110 before rushing down the wicket completely missing the ball and being stumped, the only blemish on his innings really! The second opener Cook went on to make a double century, finishing his innings 235 not out. Third man Trott also went on to make a century finishing the innings on 135 not out. Strauss decided to declare on 517 – 1 thirty minutes before tea, giving the home side a total of 297 to chase. Which of course was never going to happen given there was just over 2 ½ hours of play remaining. It was a spectacular comeback after a poor showing by England in their first innings, Australia looked well in control at the end of day three, but it wasn’t to be for the Aussies. One of my Australian internet friends suggested that England might as well give up during the Australian first innings. My reaction was “Never – ‘give up’ is not in an Englishman’s vocabulary” and that seems to be a truism despite me saying that in a tongue ‘n cheek manner! Anyway a draw is a fair outcome from this test match; both teams played well on a flat wicket, honours shared!!! Next up; England travel to Adelaide for the second Ashes test!

Liverpool failed to beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane, losing the game 2 – 1, the Reds really needed to win this match to launch their challenge on a top four finish. Martin Skrtel was both hero and villain for Liverpool, putting the Reds in the lead just before half time and then deflected Luka Modric cross into his own net 20 minutes after the half time break. The scoreline stayed 1 – 1 until two minutes into added time when Aaron Lennon scored the winner and claim the three points for Spurs. Liverpool slip back to 10th in the league while Tottenham move up to fifth in the league. Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is convinced that his Tottenham side can win the Premiership title and given the inconsistent form of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea, it could happen if Spurs remain consistent, picking up three points week in, week out!

I ordered my copy of Gran Turismo 5 on Tuesday, never bothered to pre-order because I never expected it to actually be released on time given the previous two delays. I paid up for the faster delivery, 3 – 5 days and despite the package being in Kansas City, KS yesterday at 4:30pm, it still showing as a Friday delivery date, by my reckoning, that’s nine days, even given the Thanksgiving holiday, that’s still an awful long time for a delivery that’s supposed to take a maximum of five days. But what is annoying is that it’s reached the state of Kansas already and it won’t be delivered until Friday according to the tracking information! It’s a six hour round trip to drive to Kansas City, it shouldn’t take five days! Fingers crossed that the tracking info is incorrect!

Update: I will return the copy of GT5 to Amazon when I recieve it; it’s already been six days and I paid extra for the 3 – 5 days delivery and I can buy it off the shelf. After reading pages of horror stories about packages delivered by FedEx Smartpost, I decided not to wait for it to arrive on the estimate delivery date of this Friday, I’ve had enough waiting around, it’s installing onto my PS3 now, I hope to be playing in 20 minutes or less, if the baby stays asleep that is!!!
