Plymouth Argyle move off the bottom of the table with a good win in front of the Home Park faithful. Rory Fallon netted the only goal of the game against his former club Swindon Town. The New Zealand international swept home Yannick Bolasie’s cross in the 10th minute of the game and that’s the way it stayed for the remaining 80 minutes. It may not be an impressive scoreline but it’s a win and a clean sheet; Argyle haven’t had a clean sheet in some time; so long ago I can’t remember who it was against! The Pilgrims are upto the heady heights of 23rd place and another win could see Argyle out of the relegation zone; reliant on other results of course. Peter Reid’s squad are on a bit of a roll right now and long may it continue is what I say. But the reality of the situation is that in just over a weeks time there is a real possibility that the club could fold if a buyer is not found. Today it was also announced that 16 Argyle staff have been made redundant and the club’s shop in the city centre has been closed. Season ticket holders have been asked to contribute £10 extra every time they attend a game. The remaining backroom staff are still to be paid and reliant on public donations to keep them afloat as they stay loyal to Argyle; coming to work every day as normal in an effort to keep the club running. Here is a statement from Ian Newell on behalf of the backroom staff, ironically posted on the Manchester City vital football site; but saying that I have been very surprised by how many fans of all clubs have come out in support of the Pilgrims; it’s great to see such solidarity between fans of many football clubs!
I have also been on the gadget buying spree again; I’ve hooked my old laptop into the home theatre system via the HDMI output so I can stream online video on the big screen TV so I have indulged in buying myself a wireless keyboard and mouse combo. I have bought a Logitech Wireless Desktop MK700 which I picked up from Samsclub as a spontaneous buy, it was getting tiresome having to log into the system remotely. I have also just purchased an Onkyo HT-S3300 5.1 surround sound system with all required speakers and cables; although I have ordered some better speaker cable and speaker mounts. It’s about time we upgraded; our current amp and speakers have seen better days and doesn’t support the latest Blu-Ray standards, I’ll be getting the A/V system tomorrow!
