Back off the bottom: Carlisle 1 – 1 Plymouth

Plymouth Argyle came away from Brunton Park with a valuable point against Carlisle United. The Pilgrims went behind in the 34th minute when James Berrett converted Mattie Robson’s cross, moments earlier Carlisle had the ball cleared off the Argyle line. Argyle keeper and longest serving Pilgrim Romain Larrieu made a number of impressive saves to stop the home side extending their lead. It was looking like Argyle was heading for another defeat despite being a match for the home side when Yannick Bolasie equalised from Anton Peterlin’s cross in the 84th minute to claim a share of the points. Argyle manager wasn’t so happy with the performance saying “We gave the ball away too many times for my liking, when we should have kept it.”, and “Is it a point gained or two dropped? I thought we deserved more out of the game.” – which gives me the impression that he thinks that Argyle should have won the game. At this point I’ll take a point as it lifts Argyle off the bottom of the table to 22nd and only three points away from 21st place. But the worry is that the two teams below have a game in hand and some of the teams above have four games in hand so a lot more battling performances are required to stay up! At least the club’s future is looking secure as Administrator Brendan Guilfoyle has announced that a number of bids to take over the club has come in, we will find out the lucky bidder tomorrow (Thursday). A bid from former chairman and executive director Sir Roy Gardner and Keith Todd was withdrawn on Monday after finding out that a preferred bidder has already been selected and it wasn’t them, thank goodness!
