Home Park and the land surrounding it has been sold to offshore property developers Bishop International Limited and Peter Ridsdale has finagled his way to be club owner for the sum of £1. Which bad enough but his first decision as owner of my beloved home town football club is to sell striker Joe Mason who was joint second highest goalscorer behind BWP last season, the other was Yannick Bolasie who was sold to west-country rivals Bristol City. Mason is rumoured to have been sold to Cardiff City for £250,000. I wonder what Peter Reid’s reaction was to this news; he is supposed to be building his team up; not selling players. So far it’s three players in and one out, I just don’t figure why a team owner would set his best assets just before the start of the season. With just under a month before the season starts, Argyle only have 13 players with the departure of Mason. I hold no malice against Mason, he has been messed about since December with wages like all the other players, I wish him the best, just a shame he won’t be wearing Green this season.
And on top of that, the Pilgrims could be in hot water with the Football League for sacking Icelandic midfielder Kari Arnason. According to the Professional Footballers Association’s chief executive Gordon Taylor, administrator Brendan Guilfoyle is in breach of Football Association rules and it’s Football League Insolvency Policy. Possible penalties include having to re-hire the player (although not a penalty in my opinions, Arnason is a decent player) or have to pay the player his entire wages he would have received if he saw out his contract with Plymouth which could be costly for Peter Ridsdale and will no doubt kill any budget for new players. Peter Reid still needs another seven players to have a full squad, lots to do before August 6th, it’s still on a knife-edge!
