Plymouth Argyle suffered their seventh defeat on the trot at the Underhill Stadium; and their 10th game without a win this season in all competitions. Peter Reid is stuck between a rock and a hard place, he can’t strengthen his squad because players will not come to Home Park until guarantees can be made about wages. Plus morale is very low at Home Park, Reid finally admitted that the off the pitch events are effecting on field performance so he can’t get the best out of his current squad. I don’t envy Peter Reid all this moment; all this stress for no money at all, respect the man for sticking with it when many others would have cut their losses and run.
Poor defending is what ultimately cost Argyle the game by Peter Reid’s own admission; Argyle keeper Romain Larrieu flapping at air allowing Izale McLeod an easy header to put the home side into the lead in the seventh minute. It was another Larrieu error that led to the second goal; completely misjudging Daniel Leach’s shot which bobbled across the line to double Barnet’s lead in the 64th minute. Warren Feeney almost got the Pilgrims back into the game just after half time but Barnet keeper Dean Brill was equal to Feeney’s effort! Luckily for Argyle, the other teams, with the exception of Barnet who moved upto 19th after defeating Plymouth 2 – 0; have been just as useless on the field so the gap remains at four points at the bottom of the football league!
Potential Argyle suitor James Brent will announce on Friday whether or not his consortium will be in a position to rescue the club after talking to all the shareholders. Kevin Heaney is denying that BIL have walked away from an Argyle deal as suspected by the fans and the people in the know. And of course we have Paul Buttivant in the mix as well; despite being no closer to a deal, I feel better about the situation now that other potential buyers are not frozen out as they have been for the past four months, I just hope a deal is done soon, so we can rescue our season on the pitch!
In other related rumour; Kevin Heaney’s Truro City are rumoured to be in financial trouble with players going unpaid for more than a month along with the FA placing a transfer embargo on the club while trying to sign former Argyle defender Marcel Seip. Also this season’s kit hasn’t been delivered because Heaney has not paid the invoice for the seasons kit. Peter Ridsdale is said to be looking elsewhere for opportunities after his £1 deal isn’t going to happen now Heaney is confirmed as potless, he was apparently meeting with representatives from clubs around London on Tuesday morning. I must stress that all this is rumour but it wouldn’t surprise me if this were true!
