Looking Up! Ridsdale leaving while Argyle claim their first win!

Since my last blog update; Peter Ridsdale has announced he will be leaving the club upon completion of the sale to James Brent’s Akkeron Group. I don’t know whether Ridsdale himself decided to leave, looking for other opportunities after the deal to buy the club for £1 fell through along with Kevin Heaney’s Bishop International Limited bid falling by the wayside after it became apparent he had no money! Or whether James Brent has given him the boot upon completion to appease the Argyle fans who are baying for the blood of Ridsdale and Administrator Brendan Guilfoyle (who hasn’t shown his face since it became apparent that BIL/Heaney is potless). Heaney’s Truro City has been issued with a winding up order by the HMRC while Truro players have not been paid for over a month! Which would indicate that Guilfoyle is incompetent as Heaney clearly is potless! Brent says the everything is on course but it could be weeks before the deal is completed, we’ve been waiting six months so far, what’s a few more weeks? at least we are moving forward!

There’s even good news on the field; Plymouth beat Macclesfield 2 – 0 as Carl Fletcher and [[Romain Larrieu]] take over the reigns of management. It seems like it was a much better all round performance; keeping a clean sheet for the first time this season as well as scoring more than once. Oldham loanee [[Warren Feeney]] got on the end of Connor Hourihane’s cross to put the Pilgrims into the lead on the 20th minute. [[Will Atkinson]] almost doubled the lead just before half time with a shot that whistled past the outside of the post. Robbie Williams made sure of the points with a long range free kick which rattled in off the crossbar in the 53rd minute. From a personal point of view I am so happy to be writing about a good result for Argyle, I was starting wonder if it would ever come. Plymouth are still propping up the League 2 table but the gap to 23rd has halved; fingers crossed that this win can act as a springboard to get out of the relegation zone.

Liverpool also got back to winning ways with a 2 – 1 victory over Wolves after two straight league defeats. Liverpool were gifted their first goal; Wolverhampton’s Roger Johnson diverting [[Charlie Adam]]’s rocket of a shot goalbound; Wayne Hennessey could only watch as the ball flew into the back of his net. Luis Suarez does what he does best; finding the back of the net; picking up Jose Enrique’s long ball to fire home from close range to put the home side into a commanding lead. Liverpool had a great first half but were pegged back in the second half after Steven Fletcher pulled one back in the 48th minute. Thankfully Liverpool hung on for claim all the points, a much needed three points after the two recent defeats. Liverpool are back upto fifth place ahead of Tottenham Hotspur who gave Liverpool a 4 – 0 drubbing last weekend and have a game in hand!

Finally, a brief Formula 1 update; [[Sebastian Vettel]] has one hand on the world drivers title after qualifying on pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix, Vettel’s team mate [[Mark Webber]] qualified alongside the German on the front row. [[Jenson Button]] outqualified his team mate [[Lewis Hamilton]], Hamilton could only watch as Button set a faster time on an evolving track, I’ve not checked the F1 forums yet, but no doubt there’ll be the usual team conspiracy posts against McLaren! The British duo will start the race on the second row. Next up were the Ferrari’s on the third row; [[Fernando Alonso]] outqualifing [[Felipe Massa]] yet again, row four was monopolised by Mercedes, [[Nico Rosberg]] ahead of [[Michael Schumacher]] by virtue of Rosberg actually setting a time, Schumacher elected to not run in Q3. It was the same story for the Force India duo, [[Adrian Sutil]] and [[Paul di Resta]], neither left the pits in Q3; Sutil ahead on the grid because he has the higher car number. It was really disappointed to see three drivers elect to sit in the pits rather than try to set a time, I understand their reasons but it doesn’t mean I have to like it! You could say that the grid for tomorrow is an Noah’s Ark grid, and the Formula 1 cars went in two by two!
