Disappointing; Argyle threw away 125th birthday win!

Plymouth Argyle slumped to a 2 – 2 draw against Accrington after going in at half time 2 – 0 up and an extra man on the field at Home Park in a game that celebrates Argyle’s 125th birthday.

This result really feels like a loss, having a two goal cushion and an extra man should have meant Argyle cruised to a win but to their credit, Accrington Stanley came out fighting in the second half and won more balls than the home side and scored two goals. By the end of the game Accrington had 60% of the possession with one man less on the field, the inexperience of Argyle’s squad showing again. Argyle desperately need some seasoned professionals in the squad but that isn’t an option right now as the Football League has put an embargo on signing loan players until the deal to buy the club is completed! Talk about kicking a club when it’s down, it just seems like everything is conspiring against the Pilgrims this year and every team than comes to Home Park fancies taking points away from Plymouth, Argyle have become the League 2 whipping boys!

In international football, England have qualified for the Euro 2012 tournament with a 2 – 2 away draw with Montenegro but the game was marred by what Fabio Capello considers a mistake by Wayne Rooney but I call it a lack of discipline. Rooney kicked out at Miodrag Dzudovic after the Montenegro player’s block on the striker and referee Wolfgang Stark rightly gave Rooney his marching orders. Both England and Montenegro qualify for tournament in Poland and the Ukraine, so this result suits both teams but Rooney will miss the opening game of the tournament after his loss of control! I can’t help thinking that Rooney’s violent action cost England the win, if he was still on the field, maybe Montenegro wouldn’t have scored their equalising goal? Montenegro are a decent side and shouldn’t be underestimated as proven… but I guess there is no harm done!
