On Friday, it was said that Peter Reid and Tony Campbell were holding out on signing the agreement that will allow the sale of the club to proceed. It is reported that Campbell has signed or is prepared to sign the agreement today, I can only assume that he has been paid the £6,000 he is owed, quibbling over six grand is ridiculous when talking about buying a football club!
Peter Reid is still to sign as I write this blog post and he still hasn’t said a word to the press considering the situation; and I wouldn’t expect him to given his exemplary behaviour during his short tenure at Home Park. While James Brent is saying that only Reid is holding out, acting chairman Peter Ridsdale is saying that a handful of staff/players are yet to sign, which is it? just one man, or a handful of people? Why do I get the impression that Brent is messing the extremely loyal Argyle fans around, there seems to be a lack of truthful statements coming from Home Park.
The real loser in this game of brinkmanship is the current staff and players who are likely to have to sign another wage deferral or face having the club liquidated, how much longer can this continue, most of these people are out of options, surely they have to look for alternative sources of income. These men and woman have been absolutely amazing and no-one can say a bad word against them if they decided enough is enough and walked away from the club after almost 12 months of not being paid a full wage, most months they have not seen a penny. It’s been a fucking disgraceful show by all people involved in the administration process; including Brent and Heaney.
In the meantime, despite caretaker manager Carl Fletcher’s words stating that the performance at Home Park against Swindon Town was the best this season; Argyle still lost! Playing the best football in the world while still losing the game won’t help our survival chances, claiming at least a point from every game is what is needed to ensure survival. Right now Argyle are five points off safety and a massive 23 points off the top after just 14 games, a lot of luck will be needed to remain a football league club next season, investment and experienced players is what’s needed!
Weds is the next payday. Brent has gone on and on about his admiration for the staff and all they’ve done for the club. Well now is the time to put his money where his mouth is. Should the deal not be done by Weds then he should pay the staff as a token of goodwill and a statement that he truly does want to save the club. I’m sorry if this offends anyone who sees Brent as our great white saviour, but the longer this farce continues the more he strikes me as just another business man who wants something for nothing!!!
As for Fletchs comments about Sats game, do me a favour. As stated “we LOST”, let’s leave all the praising and patting on the back til we can at least win a few on the bounce. It is clear that we need some investment on the pitch to bolster our small, young and inexperienced squad. With Brent not stating to make any money available for this, I can’t see how we are honestly going to progress.
