How Embarrassing: Being beaten by a bunch of part-timers!

If being held to a 3 – 3 draw at Home Park wasn’t bad enough, the Pilgrims went on to be beaten 2 – 0 at the War Memorial Stadium by non-league Stourbridge in the FA cup first round replay. If this is the standard of football we can expect, the Pilgrims will be joining Stourbridge in non-league obscurity next season! You can tell how poor the Argyle performance was when you read the BBC match report and it says “Bricklayer Paul McCone scored the opener after the break…“. Does anyone have any miracles going spare? because that’s what Argyle require at this time!

What didn’t help matters is another lack of discipline from Plymouth, Paul Bignot was shown a straight red for kicking out at Sean Evans after the Stourbridge forward fouled the defender. I don’t know if Argyle are paying his wages (as he is on loan from Ian Holloway’s Blackpool), but if Argyle are paying him, he should be fined three weeks wages as he will be out for the next three games for his stupid moment of indiscipline. But I cant take anything away from the midlanders, Stourbridge have proven to be a decent team and showed it today, making good use of the man over. It’s hard to imagine, but just two short years ago, the Pilgrims were a Championship team!

Although Argyle claimed 50% of the possession; every other statistic went the way of the home side, attempts on target, 8 to 3 in favour of Stourbridge, and 5 to 1 in the shots off target stats, the only other stat to be close was fouls, not exactly something to be proud of though. I think that an @reply to my tweet expressing my displeasure at the Argye XI I received on Twitter summed it up perfectly “They were lucky to get nil!!!”. This has to go down as the new low point of the season on the field of play! This result highlights the uphill battle Argyle face to survive!
