On Saturday we received a letter from the Wichita SRS saying that we have been approved for food stamps that we applied for back in July, see “Our dealings with the Wichita SRS office!” and “UPDATE: Our dealings with the Wichita SRS office!” for the background to this blog entry. We went down to the SRS office in downtown Wichita today, picked up our “Vision” card and was told that the card was loaded with $222 and we would receive $111 every month on the 5th day. But alarm bells started ringing when we heard the figure $222 loaded on the card, if it was backdated to July as the letter indicated, there should have been over $500 loaded on the card. So my wife called up the SRS call centre and we find out that we were accepted back in July but denied in August, which is completely contradictory to what was written on the letter. Why even send out that letter? which was dated 18th November 2011 saying we have been accepted and telling us we’ll be getting $111 per month backdated to July 2011, Wichita government departments are akin to a chocolate teapot, glass hammer and handbrake on a canoe, e.g. FUCKING USELESS!
