I have made no secret of my dislike of Peter Ridsdale for a number of reasons, one being his history of football club ownership, another being his being out for number one, taking a reputed £20,000pcm in consultancy fees from P&A Partnership while players and staff went unpaid. The way he changed his tune every time the preferred bidder changed, one minute Ridsdale was buying the club for £1 as part of Kevin Heaney’s BIL bid then suddenly he has supported James Brent all along when Brent came back to the fore. If he supported Brent from the start, how come he tried to buy the football club for the nominal amount of £1? Too many lies were coming from Home Park during the administration process and a lot of them came from Peter Ridsdale’s mouth!
Ridsdale announced on Monday that he had resigned from Argyle to take up the position of chairman at Preston NE, effective immediately. I may not like the man but I understand why he has left Home Park, being away from his family for almost a year takes it’s toll, joining Preston will mean he can return to his family home in Lancashire. According to reports, James Brent is in no hurry to find a replacement as Ridsdale will still have a finger in the Argyle pie over the next few months advising manager Carl Fletcher and Brent during the January transfer window.
I just hope that this change will not destabilise the team further, the last game against Northampton Town was a big boost to everyone at Home Park, a 4 – 1 home win has done wonders for morale. It’s a shame there has been a two week gap, it would have been good to have consolidated that win the very next week but hopefully the feel good factor will lead the Pilgrims to another three points away at Bradford, but losing the club’s chairman won’t help morale!
