Liverpool bounce back with a 3 – 0 derby win at Anfield!

In the last few weeks, Liverpool have won the Carling Cup and lost their last three league games so it comes as a welcome relief to come away with three points from the Merseyside derby.

Steven Gerrard was the star of the game, marking his 400th Premier League appearance scoring a hat trick. The first of which came in the 34th minute, Gerrard firing in from the edge of the penalty area after Everton keeper Tim Howard could only parry Martin Kelly’s shot! Five minutes after the half time break, Gerrard doubled Liverpool’s lead snatching the ball from the feet of Luis Suarez as the ball ran away from the Uruguayan, firing high into the centre of the net!

Gerrard made it 3 – 0 in the 92nd minute of the game with a nice little interplay with Suarez, the Uruguayan laying the ball off perfectly, leaving Gerrard to fire into empty net as keeper, Howard was committed! If Liverpool played this well in their previous three league games, the Reds could have been upto fifth place and within one point of Arsenal in fourth place. It amazes me, three piss poor matches and suddenly a performance like this comes out of absolutely nowhere!

I know that in derby games everyone puts in the extra effort like we saw on Tuesday evening, but my question is; why don’t the players put in 110% in each and every game, it almost seems like Liverpool don’t bring their “A” game to every match and get punished. Liverpool should not be losing to teams like Bolton and Sunderland given the quality and depth in the Reds squad!
