The Supreme Court has ruled that President Obama’s “individual mandate” part of his healthcare reform bill is constitutional. What this means is that people who elect to not buy the new ‘affordable’ health insurance will face a tax penalty, more than likely directly from their tax refund! Something that is akin to forcing everyone to buy an American car or face higher costs for tags (road tax). This ruling goes against people’s civil liberties and freedom of choice! This bill will punish people that are on the poverty line, who rely on tax refunds to survive from year to year!
I’m confused by Obama’s statement “A victory for people all over this country” – how is this a victory for the country? 50 million or 16% of people are uninsured; ask yourself the question; why are they uninsured? I bet most people would answer because they can’t afford insurance at any price; they are just about surviving without facing tax penalties for not having insurance! Most jobs pay a piss poor wage that just about allows people to survive in basic surroundings, if people were better off in general; I’d bet they’d buy medical insurance so they could actually visit a doctor and have their bills covered; maybe Mr. Obama would like to spend a year living on the poverty line?
Me personally, I don’t need medical insurance; I never visit a doctor; I will have to actually be dying before I’d visit a doctor or hospital, what’s the point in paying thousands of dollars per year for a service I am extremely unlikely to use? Now this law has been given the green light, what’s next?
