About a week ago; my wife received a letter from the Social Security Administration saying they would be calling today at 9am and if she failed to be available they would stop our SSI benefits we get for Conner which helps pay for his therapies. As knock on effect, we’ll also makes his medicaid (health insurance) invalid which means we’ll have to stop all his therapies as there is no way in hell we can afford to pay the costs ourselves; we don’t have a spare $500 a month knocking about!
So my wife took the call today; the SSA representative refused to talk to me despite my name being on the application and also knowing much more about our finances as I am the one that manages our finances. We were totally honest and gave our true financial numbers and because of some savings we have; from a law suit settlement after a car wreck in November 2010. Basically we have more than $5,000 in assets when you factor in our second car which is only worth $1,400.
The SSA claimed that we hadn’t sent them our child support income for the last 12 months, which is not true, my wife sent that information every single month religiously and they also claim that I have been working for the last 18 months, which is not the case. I have not worked since April 2010, just how incompetent are these government departments? or is it another way to screw us?
The net result is we’ll almost certainly lose our SSI benefits, losing $300 each month and Medicaid benefits for Conner, which has more far reaching consequences as we’ll need to stop his therapy sessions with South Central Mental Health and maybe even pull him out of camp. And We’ll probably end up owing money because they’ve lost the faxes with details of Conner’s child support income, which’ll probably come out of our tax return as we don’t have the spare money without using the little savings we have; after which we’ll be eligible to get SSI again; how f**king stupid is that?
I’ll reiterate my feelings about government departments; Chocolate Teapot, Glass Hammer, Handbrake on a Canoe, I wish that we had the money to get the hell out of this country and return to my home country of the UK; America is all about screwing you out of the little money you have!
