Argyle held to another draw while Liverpool return to winning ways!

Plymouth Argyle still haven’t secured back to back wins this season, being held to a 1 – 1 draw at Home Park against Southend after last week’s excellent 2 – 3 away win over Morecambe. While Liverpool showed some form beating Norwich City 2 – 5 at Carrow Road, a much needed victory for under fire manager, Brendan Rogers after only claiming two points from a possible 15 points.

As always I’ll start with my home town team; Plymouth Argyle. The Pilgrims despite taking the lead in the game; let two points slip away, which seems to be common practice for Argyle this season. Plymouth’s Alex MacDonald’s low drive, which slipped underneath the Southend keeper’s body put the home side into the lead on the 50th minute of the game; but that lead was incredibly short-lived as Southend’s Britt Assombalonga leveled the scores four minutes later!

This result leaves Argyle 16th in League Two on 10 points (from 27), just five points away from a play-off place; but conversely only six points away from the bottom two, so it can go either way, which is why I hope for back to back wins to lift the Pilgrims up towards the top seven positions.

Liverpool claimed their first win of the season after five games of non-winningness (not a real word), seems like the sixth game is a charm. Luis Suarez claimed a hat-trick, finding the back of the net in the second, 38th and 57th minutes while giving the assist to Nuri Sahin to put Liverpool 0 – 4 up by the 57th minute. Norwich’s Steve Morison pulled one back for the home team in the 61st minute, before Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard made it 1 – 5 with one of his trademark 20 yard rockets. Grant Holt scored a late consolation goal in the 88th minute for the Canaries but it was all over but for the shouting, a great day for Liverpool fans after a poor start to the season!

Liverpool have moved upto the heady heights of 14th after Saturday’s victory, the bad news is that the Reds are 11 points away from league leaders Chelsea and seven points behind Manchester City in fourth place. I would imagine that Brendan Rogers didn’t imagine being so far adrift after six games when he took over the reigns at Anfield. Let’s hope that this result can kickstart the Reds season, one win out of every five is not good for a team the caliber and history of Liverpool!
