Plymouth Argyle: Two out of three aint bad!

I’ve been lax on my updating of football affairs. Since my last football update; Argyle have played three games, won two and lost one, which isn’t so bad as Argyle move into mid-table obscurity. The Pilgrims currently sit in 15th place on 17 points, four points off a play-off place and six points above the relegation places; two consecutive wins helped lift the Pilgrims clear of the bottom two.

Let’s go back 11 days where we see Argyle take three points away from Barnet; in what was one of the most convincing wins I have seen in some time from the Pilgrims. Plymouth got off to the perfect start; Rhys Griffiths scoring for the penalty spot in the second minute of the game after Mark Byrne fouled Luke Young. Maxime Blanchard doubled the advantage in the 11th minute with a close range headed goal, before David Stephens’ low drive pulled one back for the home team.

The scoreline stayed at 1 – 2 until the 62nd minute when the visitors extended their lead; Paris Cowan-Hall heading in his third goal of the season to make it 1 – 3. Luke Young killed off any remaining resistance with a superb free kick in second half added time to go 1 – 4. This victory moved the Pilgrims up into 18th in league Two while Barnet were cast further adrift at the bottom!

Moving forward one week; Argyle found themselves earning a consecutive three points; this time at Home Park against Rochdale. Plymouth took an early lead again; Guy Madjo firing Argyle into the lead from the spot on four minutes after Ryan Edwards handled inside the box. Andres Gurrieri made it 2 – 0 just three minutes later with a headed goal; The Pilgrims were on their way to victory!

The visitors had their chance to pull one back from the penalty spot themselves but Jake Cole was equal to Bobby Grant’s spot kick. The Dale did get a goal in the 76th minute; Dele Adebola heading in from close range to give the visitors hope. But it wasn’t to be for Rochdale as Guy Madjo fired home his second penalty of the afternoon almost three minutes into second half added time to finish the game 3 – 1 up and three points in the bag! Argyle move upto 15th with this victory!

We came back down to Earth with a bump on Tuesday losing 2 – 1 at promotion chasing Cheltenham Town, Argyle again opened the scoring; Conor Hourihane netting from 20 yards. But Cheltenham pulled one back within six minutes; Steve Elliott finding the net from six yards. The Home side went onto win the game in the 78th minute; Kaid Mohamed with another close range header.

It’s a shame that Argyle couldn’t hang onto a point but I will be happy to accept two victories from every three games for the remainder of the season; unlikely to happen I know, but I am forever the optimist! But in all seriousness, if Argyle finish in the top half of the table, I’ll be happy!
