Please read my previous article on this subject, before reading on. Today, we receive letter from the Social Security Administration stating that we must repay $3,891.33 by October, 12 2012. The SSA claim we’ve been over the $5,000 resource limit for 12 months, clearly an assumption because we have only been over the resource limit for five months after our tax return and a legal settlement, they’ve taken a figure we gave them in August and applied it to the whole period!
Anyway, I digress, this has been covered previously; my annoyance right now is; the letter dated September, 27 clearly states we have 60 days to appeal from the day after we received the letter; which was October, 1. Now we’ve received another statement saying we owe almost $3,900, which is dated October, 2, hardly sixty days is it? On Monday, we will obtain form SSA-632 from our local chocolate teapot factory (SSA office) to start the appeal process, suffice to say we are not going to pay back anything until the outcome of the appeal which should cut our repayment bill in half.
You know the old saying “never ASSUME, it makes an ASS out of U and ME“; the Social Security Administration are clearly a bunch of prized ASSES as they clearly have no evidence whatsoever that we were over the resource limit for that whole period of time. But we do as I have saved every bank statement for more than a year, which proves we were under the limit for only five of those twelve months.
