Argyle drop to the bottom of League 2 after contentious goalkeeping error!

Plymouth Argyle return to the bottom of League 2 after a second successive 1 – 0 defeat. Things are getting increasingly desperate at Home Park, despite all the changes that John Sheridan has made, the situation hasn’t improved; still no out and out goalscorer, 230 minutes of play without a goal.

Going back a week at Home Park; Argyle were condemned to a 0 – 1 defeat by Oxford United’s James Constable six yard effort; and frankly the Pilgrims were lucky to only lose by one goal, Constable opted to pass instead of shooting at goal and later hit the woodwork. Plymouth had their chances as well, Jason Banton saw his shot blocked by former Pilgrim’s keeper Luke McCormick while Reuben Reid had his header cleared off the line by Oxford captain Jake Wright to keep a clean sheet!

Moving to this weekend; Argyle were denied a point away at promotion chasing Northampton Town by a goalkeeping error from Jake Cole. There is a suggestion from Argyle gaffer John Sheridan that Cole was fouled by Kelvin Langmead, which allowed Clive Platt to bundle the ball into the back of the net. I haven’t personally seen the game so I can not comment on whether Cole was fouled or not but it certainly got Sheridan very hot under the collar as you can hear in his post match interview on BBC Radio Devon. But the bottom line is that Argyle failed to find the back of the net again!

I’m just hoping that John Sheridan has a plan of action to turn things around as right now there seems to be a downward spiral happening. As things stand, a good defence is not enough; Argyle need to start winning games and the lack of goalscorers is hindering the quest for wins. To win a game, at least one goal needs to be scored. Other team are getting that all important goal while Argyle seem to falter in front of the sticks, what’s the answer? I don’t know, hopefully JS does!
