You’re seriously blaming us for your stupidity?

At 7:30pm this evening my wife went out to grab some fast food, from McDonalds, Spangles, and Braums and it’s turned out to be a costly food run. While slowly creeping forward in the drive-thru lane; this dozy woman smashed into the side of our car with a shopping cart, putting a sizeable crack in the front passenger door, then she had the audacity to blame my wife for the collision!

Wider Angle View of The Damage

The shopping cart wielding lunatic claimed that my wife was speeding through the drive-thru; which wasn’t possible as there was a large SUV immediately in front! And if my wife was speeding then she would have hit the cart head on and missed it completely. Bottom line is that the woman (who I am resisting naming and shaming right now) wasn’t paying attention and then tried to shift the blame.

I understand that accidents happen, if she accepted blame and offered to pay for the damage then we could accept what happened and moved on, but the fact that she tried to pass the buck just angered us more. My wife got the woman’s car insurance details; but I can’t do anything with that as she hit our car with a shopping cart, not her vehicle, I’m pretty sure they won’t cover shopping carts!

Moving on to my second annoyance, my wife called the police and they told her point blank that they would not send someone out to investigate, top marks Wichita Police Department, too busy stopping drivers doing 45 in a 40 zone, collecting those tickets to deal with cases of criminal damage. I shouldn’t be surprised after Bel Aire Police Department totally failed to investigate claims of brake failure by the driver that rear-ended us, writing off our Focus back in November 2011.

I admire my wife’s restraint, I would have been ripping cart catastrophe woman another asshole (in a metaphorical sense, I don’t use violence to fight my battles). I don’t take kindly to being accused of being at fault when all the evidence says otherwise and I have a bit of a temper that has gotten me into trouble before, I bet the police would have been in attendance if I were there!

    What a bloody gurner!

Any ideas what kind of cost that damage has incurred if you went ahead and fixed it?

  • I don’t know the cost; whatever it is, it’ll have to wait, it’s safe to say that we’ll need a new door panel and a respray, which is probably going to be close to $1,000 including labour!
