Liverpool still top of the Premiership, am I dreaming? someone pinch me!

I have been busy over the last month with my new job so haven’t had to opportunity to write about football, but today I am going to remedy that situation. First thing I’d like to say is LIVERPOOL ARE TOP OF THE PREMIERSHIP, which makes me very happy. A month ago I created a post called Quick, take a screenshot… thinking it wouldn’t last and today, albeit before Arsenal’s game with West Brom on Sunday, Liverpool are still top; I’ve never been a West Brom fan but I will be tomorrow.

The question is; are Liverpool that much better than previous seasons or have the other top teams been under performing or maybe a mixture of both? I think that Liverpool are a better team than 12 months ago, Brendan Rogers is really starting to influence the team and players and the gaffer still believes that Liverpool are not at their best, which is a good omen for Liverpool’s first top tier title since the formation of the Premiership 21 years ago, which will cement Rogers as a Liverpool legend.

I have to admit that I was dubious about Rogers credentials when he was announced as Liverpool manager last June, but he has proved me wrong this season, and I really hope that he continues to prove me wrong, I’m really hoping that Rogers can be for Liverpool what Sir Alex Ferguson was for Manchester United for 25 years. I believe that any team needs stability to truly thrive in the Premier League and Champions League; and Rogers could be the key to Liverpool’s stability.

The only blip this season is being dumped out of the FA Cup in the third round, losing 1 – 0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford but in my view that is inconsequential as not being in the FA Cup allows the Reds to concentrate on winning their first Premier League title and getting into Europe.

It’s not been a dominant season for Liverpool by any stretch of the imagination but all that matters is scoring more points than the other 19 teams. Being held to a 2 – 2 draw with Swansea and losing 0 – 1 at Anfield to Southampton were disappointments for sure, it’s games that Liverpool should have won, but all is forgiven for beating Manchester United in front of the Kop earlier in the season.
