I’m disappointed with a draw against Morecambe after the dominant first half display that Argyle put in. The scoreline may have only been 0 – 1 at half time but the performance was much better than the scoreline suggests. Morecambe came out in the second half and outplayed the Pilgrims, turning a one goal deficit into a one goal lead by the 70th minute. But it was not to be for the home side, Plymouth hit back in the last ten minutes to take a point away from Lancashire.
Luke Young grabbed an early goal from the edge of the 18 yard box in the fourth minute of the game to set Argyle up for an excellent first half performance, it almost seems like the Pilgrims are playing with more belief since securing league survival last week, claiming the lions share of the possession and shots on goal, I don’t believe that Morecambe had a shot on target in the first half!
Morecambe had the perfect start to the second half; Jordan Burrow heading an equaliser from Izak Reid’s cross in the 51st minute then Lewis Alessandra’s low drive on the stroke of the 71st minute put the home side into the lead. The Pilgrims hung in there and grabbed an 83rd minute equaliser; Darren Purse heading home from just inside the 18 yard box. A point is better than nothing but I can’t help but feel like it’s two points lost after the first half performance!
The biggest disappointment is @Only1Argyle Tweet about how the game was Meaningless, frankly I think that is a piss poor attitude from the club’s official Twitter feed. Every game is important, regardless of whether it’s playing for league titles, survival or simply for pride, the club should be looking to win every game! I realise that the Twitter account is not necessarily a reflection of the team’s attitude but it’s still disappointing to see as it’s an official feed which represents the club!
Liverpool got back to winning ways after losing five out of the last six games in the league. Luis Suarez netted his first hattrick for the Reds in top fashion, the Uruguayan was the difference maker in this game. It’s is really nice to see the ball flying into the back of the net after game after game of Liverpool peppering the opposition goal without finding the gap between the sticks!
First goal was a nice interplay between Steven Gerrard and Suarez, Gerrard’s diagonal cross to the feet of Suarez and the striker made no mistake putting the ball into the right of goal. His second was an individual effort, picking up the ball from the half way line and running at goal to finish clinically for a two goal lead four minutes after the first goal went in. Suarez’ third goal was an audacious chip from the half way line straight from Pepe Reina’s goal kick in the 82nd minute.
Definitely a good way to go into the FA Cup final next weekend against Chelsea, although Liverpool will have to play much better to beat a team like Chelsea. With due respect to Norwich, they are not even in the same league as Chelsea but I believe in Liverpool’s ability to step up their game in the big events! The league maybe a disaster but a cup double will make me feel better!
