After initially refusing to even hold talks with Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group, Swansea manager, Brendan Rodgers has decided to take the managers position vacated by Kenny Dalglish two weeks ago. I’m still not 100% convinced this is the right decision for Liverpool football club but now the deal has been done, I will get behind him. Liverpool have paid £7m in compensation to Swansea for the loss of Rogers, coach Colin Pascoe, assistant performance analyst Chris Davies and performance consultant Glen Driscoll, all of who are believed to be heading towards Anfield!
The reason I say I am not sure Rogers is the right man for the job is; he is relatively new to management; he’s only been a first team manager for four years; I believe to be Liverpool manager, the candidate will need more than four years experience at first team level. But saying that, maybe being used to smaller budgets to build a team will result in some shrewd signings, while getting rid of the some of the donkey’s that Dalglish and Hodgson brought in. Now that the decision has been made, I will get behind the new Liverpool manager, and hopefully so will the rest of the Reds fans!
Carl Fletcher has signed a one year rolling contract to keep him on as manager after successfully guiding the Pilgrims to league survival in 2011/12, Romain Larrieu will also remain as assistant manager after retiring from playing at the end of the season after 12 years as Argyle keeper!
Northern Ireland international Warren Feeney has signed a one year extension to his contract; goalkeeper Ollie Chenoweth and midfielder Joe Lennox have also signed one year contract extensions, defender Durrell Berry has extended his contract as well, but the term of the contract is unknown, but I suspect another one year rolling contract. Defender Robbie Williams has been offered a new contract but is yet to accept; manager Fletcher has indicated that if Williams doesn’t come to a decision soon, he’ll move on and look elsewhere for a defensive left side player!
